Research ‘Geography of Ghosts: Short Film’2023

DE Der Kurzfilm “Geography of Ghosts” verbindet Erzählungen von persönlichen Erfahrungen mit der luziden, spektralen und widersprüchlichen Materialität von 3D LIDAR Scanning Verfahren. Er entfaltet räumliche Fragmente, gesammelt in und um Wien: das Innere einer weitläufigen Arztpraxis, eine U-Bahn-Station, das Innere einer Asylunterkunft in einem einst als Krankenhaus errichteten Gebäude und die Umgebung einer weiteren Unterkunft, eingebettet in den Kontext einer Schule, eines Gerichts und einer Polizeistation. So entsteht eine visuelle Sprache, die einerseits medizinische Bildgebungsverfahren zitiert und andererseits die „objektive“ Darstellungen von Krankheit hinterfragt, indem sie vergangene und zukünftige Wünsche, Enttäuschungen und Hoffnungen miteinander verhandelt. o

EN The short film ‘Geography of Ghosts’ combines narratives of personal experience with the materiality of the 3D LIDAR scanning process. It unfolds spatial fragments collected in and around Vienna: the interior of a sprawling doctor's office, a subway station, the interior of an asylum shelter in a building once constructed as a hospital and the surroundings of another shelter, embedded in the context of a school, a court and a police station. The result is a visual language that, on the one hand, quotes medical imaging procedures and, on the other, questions the “objective” representations of illness by negotiating past and future wishes, disappointments and hopes.
