Talk ‘Interdisciplinary Workshop: Social Studies of Health across Disciplines: Bringing together Perspectives from Anthropology and Political Science’

DE   Wanda Spahl präsentierte PARABOLs künstlerische Forschung im Talk “3D LIDAR Scans as a Social Science Method for Researching Health”. Sie reflektierte die wissenschaftlich-künstlerische Zusammenarbeit im Projekt Geography of Ghosts und mögliche weitere Anwendungsfelder für die entwickelte Methode. Der Workshop brachte Wissenschaftler:innen der Forschungsgruppe Health Matters (Prof. Janina Kehr, Institut für Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie, Universität Wien) und des Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity (Prof. Barbara Prainsack, Institut für Politikwissenschaft, Universität Wien) zusammen.

EN Wanda Spahl presented PARABOL’s artistic research in the talk ‘3D LIDAR Scans as a Social Science Method for Researching Health.’ She reflected on the scientific-artistic collaboration in the Geography of Ghosts project and possible further fields of application for the developed method. The workshop brought together researchers from the Health Matters research group (Prof. Janina Kehr, Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology, University of Vienna) and the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity (Prof. Barbara Prainsack, Department of Political Science, University of Vienna).

Talk ‘Lecture: Migration, Im/Mobilities, In/Equalities’

DE Der Gastvortrag Mapping Multiple Media/Meanings of Healthcare for Refugees fand im Rahmen der Vorlesung Migration, Im/Mobilities, In/Equalities von Prof. Susan Thieme (Universität Bern) statt. Wanda Spahl und Dominic Schwab berichteten von ihrem transdisziplinären künstlerischen Forschungsansatz, am Beispiel von räumlichen Aspekten der Gesundheit von geflüchteten Menschen. Im Anschluss führten sie Studierende durch die Installation “Spatial Narratives” am Geographischen Institut, Universität Bern.

EN The guest lecture Mapping Multiple Media/Meanings of Healthcare for Refugees took place as part of the lecture ‘Migration, Im/Mobilities, In/Equalities’ by Prof. Susan Thieme (University of Bern). Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab reported on their transdisciplinary artistic research approach, using the example of spatial aspects of the health of refugees. They then guided students through the installation ‘Spatial Narratives’ at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern.

Talk ‘14th International Conference on Artistic Research ’

DE Unter dem Motto “Too Early / Too Late” widmete sich die 14. International Conference on Artistic Research der Farge des Verhältnisses von künstlerischer Forschung und gesellschaftlicher Transformation. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Society for Artistic Research organisiert, ist sie die größte Konferenz zur praxisbasierten Forschung durch die Künste. Mit dem Diskutanten Nabil Ahmed (Trondheim Academy of Fine Art; Forensic Architecture) präsentieren Wanda Spahl und Dominic Schwab GoG in den Trondheimer Olavshallen und diskutieren ihre zeitgenössische Praxis der Kartierung räumlicher und sozialer Territorien im Gesundheitswesen. Durch diese Praxis möchten sie auch das epistemologische Potenzial dieser Technologien als integralen Bestandteil von Forschungsaktivitäten beleuchten.

EN Under the motto “Too Early / Too Late” the 14th International Conference on Artistic Research focused on the question of the relationship between artistic research and societal transformation. Organized in collaboration with the Society for Artistic Research, it is the largest conference on practice-based research through the arts. With the discussant Nabil Ahmed (Trondheim Academy of Fine Art; Forensic Architecture), Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab present GoG in the Trondheim Olavshallen and discuss their contemporary practice of mapping spatial and social territory in healthcare. Through this practice, they also aim to shed light on these technologies’ epistemological potential as an integral part of research activities.

DE Eingeladen von Heidrun Åm, Department of Sociology and Political Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), hielten Wanda Spahl und Dominic Spahl einen Vortrag über ihre künstlerischen Forschungsmethoden. In ihrem Vortrag “Spatial narratives. A transdisciplinary approach to health and migration“ schlugen sie vor, 3D LIDAR Scanning Verfahren in die Erforschung von Gesundheit und Migration zu integrieren. Der Vortrag wurde begleitet von einer lebhaften Diskussion mit Angehörigen der NTNU Forschenden aus den Sozialwissenschaften.

EN Invited by Heidrun Åm from the Department of Sociology and Political Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Wanda Spahl and Dominic Spahl gave a talk on their artistic research methods. In their talk ‘Spatial narratives. A transdisciplinary approach to health and migration,’ they proposed integrating the 3D LIDAR scanning process into the research of health and migration. The talk was accompanied by a lively discussion with NTNU researchers from the social sciences.

DE Die 2023 Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK Konferenz “An Unwell World? Anthropology in a Speculative Mode” konzentrierte sich auf die Welt, in der wir heute leben. Wanda Spahl und Dominic Schwab präsentierten GoG im Panel “Art & Ethnography”. Organisiert von Nora Wuttke (Durham University) und Alison Clark (University of South-Eastern Norway), stellte das Panel die Frage: Was bringt das Schaffen von Kunst der Anthropologie und Ethnografie epistemologisch und methodologisch? Unter der Leitung der Diskutantin Marina Petersen (University of Texas at Austin) entstand eine spannende Diskussion über das Potenzial von 3D LIDAR Scanning Verfahren für die künstlerische Forschung.

EN The 2023 Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK conference ‘An Unwell World? Anthropology in a Speculative Mode’ focused on the world we live in today. Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab presented GoG at the Panel ‘Art & Ethnography’. Organised by Nora Wuttke (Durham University) and Alison Clark (University of South-Eastern Norway), the panel asked: What does the making of art bring to anthropology and ethnography, epistemologically and methodologically? Led by the discussant Marina Petersen (University of Texas at Austin), an intriguing discussion on the potential of the 3D LIDAR scanning processes for artistic research emerged.
