EN Wanda Spahl presented PARABOL’s artistic research in the talk ‘3D LIDAR Scans as a Social Science Method for Researching Health.’ She reflected on the scientific-artistic collaboration in the Geography of Ghosts project and possible further fields of application for the developed method. The workshop brought together researchers from the Health Matters research group (Prof. Janina Kehr, Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology, University of Vienna) and the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity (Prof. Barbara Prainsack, Department of Political Science, University of Vienna).

EN The guest lecture ‘Mapping Multiple Media/Meanings of Healthcare for Refugees’ took place as part of the lecture ‘Migration, Im/Mobilities, In/Equalities’ by Prof. Susan Thieme (University of Bern). Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab reported on their transdisciplinary artistic research approach, using the example of spatial aspects of the health of refugees. They then guided students through the installation ‘Spatial Narratives’ at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern.

EN Under the motto “Too Early / Too Late” the 14th International Conference on Artistic Research focused on the question of the relationship between artistic research and societal transformation. Organized in collaboration with the Society for Artistic Research, it is the largest conference on practice-based research through the arts. With the discussant Nabil Ahmed (Trondheim Academy of Fine Art; Forensic Architecture), Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab present GoG in the Trondheim Olavshallen and discuss their contemporary practice of mapping spatial and social territory in healthcare. Through this practice, they also aim to shed light on these technologies’ epistemological potential as an integral part of research activities.

EN Invited by Heidrun Åm from the Department of Sociology and Political Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Wanda Spahl and Dominic Spahl gave a talk on their artistic research methods. In their talk ‘Spatial narratives. A transdisciplinary approach to health and migration,’ they proposed integrating the 3D LIDAR scanning process into the research of health and migration. The talk was accompanied by a lively discussion with NTNU researchers from the social sciences.

EN The 2023 Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK conference ‘An Unwell World? Anthropology in a Speculative Mode’ focused on the world we live in today. Wanda Spahl and Dominic Schwab presented GoG at the Panel ‘Art & Ethnography’. Organised by Nora Wuttke (Durham University) and Alison Clark (University of South-Eastern Norway), the panel asked: What does the making of art bring to anthropology and ethnography, epistemologically and methodologically? Led by the discussant Marina Petersen (University of Texas at Austin), an intriguing discussion on the potential of the 3D LIDAR scanning processes for artistic research emerged.
